Abstract

This research aims to examine the Qur’anic methodology for leadership development and to uncover the foundational principles presented by the Holy Qur’an in shaping a leadership personality capable of achieving vicegerency, civilization-building, and reform in the lives of individuals and societies. The research problem arises from the need to reread the Qur’anic leadership model in light of the intellectual, administrative, and civilizational crises experienced by contemporary societies, and to search for authentic criteria that contribute to preparing leaders who combine moral competence with practical capability. The research adopts the inductive-analytical method by tracing Qur’anic verses related to leadership and analyzing the leadership models presented therein, in order to derive the concepts, qualities, skills, and educational principles necessary for developing leaders. The study discusses the concept of leadership in the Holy Qur’an and its most prominent practical models. It then examines the personal and ethical qualities that a leader should possess, as well as the intellectual, administrative, and communication skills that qualify the leader to fulfill his mission. The research also explores the most important Qur’anic principles in leadership formation and preparation. The research concludes that the Holy Qur’an presents an integrated leadership model through the diversity of prophetic and human examples. Public leadership is represented in figures such as Dawud, Sulayman, and Dhu al-Qarnayn; scholarly leadership appears in the story of Musa with the righteous servant; da‘wah leadership is reflected in the examples of the believer from the family of Pharaoh, the believer of Yasin, and the People of the Cave; military leadership is seen in the models of prophets and righteous kings; and transformative and liberating leadership is embodied in the missions of the prophets. In addition, economic and ethical leadership is represented by figures such as Yusuf, Shu‘ayb, and Luqman, peace be upon them. The research affirms that the Qur’anic methodology of leadership is not limited to the possession of authority or influence. Rather, it is based on the integration of faith, knowledge, ethics, and competence, thereby contributing to the development of leaders capable of bringing about civilizational change and achieving comprehensive reform.
